Hamilton Family

From: Peg Roloff

This story has been passed down in our family over the years and was written up by my great aunt Catherine Hamilton in the early 1950's. It has been included in a book about the family. Here is an portion of her stories. This is from the George Hamilton Line. Granted 640 acres near Guilford Court House, NC in 1756 Geo died about 1796. George and Frances had 10 sons and 2 daughters. One of these sons was William who married Mary Coots. No children. "Most probably he (William) served in the American Revolution and received lands in "Cumberland", as Tennessee was then called. His will was made most probably just prior to going to Cumberland, where he and a party of surveyors were chased by a squad of Indians. In crossin a river (some records by Stones and others say Cumberland), his horse came up riderless and nothing further was known of him. " His heirs, George Hamilton and Rebecca Grier located on the lands in Cumberland that they inherited from their uncle. -- Submitted by Peggy Roloff
