Important News:

Thanks to Mr. Elliott Evans who sent me a copy of an article written by, Gary Tanner, Telegraph Staff Writer,  in the Macon Telegraph, June 1, 2004, I learned that the grave of Sparta's founder, Revolutionary War Office, Maj. Charles Abercrombie had been located.

A group of volunteers found the grave after extensive searches in the area. The same group has documented the locations of 247 cemeteries in Hancock County, GA.

I plan to contact the group and find out the exact location of Maj. Abercrombie's grave and will add the information to this page in the near future.

(many unmarked graves in this cemetery) On Hwy., GA 87, abt. 11 miles from Eastman toward Abbeville. It is located on the left side of the road abt. one-quarter mi beyond the point where the old river road, now GA. 230, merges with GA 87. About 100 yards back in a wooded area. Cemetery recorded in deed Bk 20, page 537 at Dodge Co Courthouse. This is the location of the  Old Daniel Plantation.)

Hendley, William, Captain Dodge Co.   (Rhine,  -Levi Holt Harrell home site, now owned by Rogers (Pulaski Co., GA) I have photos of William's Grave and the entire cemetery. The Rogers family is related to the Harrell family through Mrs. Rogers, who I believe was a Harrell before marriage. Please go to the house and ask permission to visit the cemetery )
