Lowndes County

Be it remembered, that on this day in open court, February the 1st, 1847,

Personally came before the Inferior Court now sitting, Shadrack Griffin,

Who is known to this Court as a credible witnefs, aged 56 years, and made oath in due form of Law,

That he is the refuted Son of James & Sarah Griffin. That he was bornde as per his record, October

the 20th, 1792. That he was always told and believes that his father and mother was married in Edge combe County, NC, about seven years before he was bornde. That during his childhood, he lived with his parents,

the said James & Sarah in Edge Combe County, NC. That he has seen those who were at his father’s &

mother’s wedding as stated.

That no doubts has ever arisen, but that they were lawfully married, that they lived together as man and wife,

And raised a family of children. That they moved from North Carolina to Burke County, Georgia and to Montgomery County, Georgia and then to Irwin County, Georgia.

That his father was always reputed to have been a Revolutionary Soldier for five years, that he drew a Pension

In Irwin County, Georgia, a short time before his death-December 19th, 1836.

That his mother, Sarah Griffin, has never married since the death of his father as aforesaid, but is still a

Widow residing in Lowndes County, Georgia. That the deponent believes the said, Sarah, his mother, to

Be Eighty years of age next October 23rd, and that the record of the birth of her children as set forth in the ammended declaration of his mother, he believes to be correct. That his father’s pension was about Eighty

Eight dollars per Annum-there but five of his father’s children and mother as listed, living at this time.

To Wit-This Deponent, Rhoda Griffin of Irwin County Georgia, Solomon in Tolfaro Floyd County Georgia,

Elizabeth Griffin, now a Bradford, with whom her mother lives in the County, Sworn to and Subscribed in open Court-in this day and year aforementioned.
