Southern Department Established: March 1, 1776 Originally comprised of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Later in the war, Maryland and Delaware were transferred to the department. Organized January and April of 1776 - Savannah, Georgia

Captured May 12, 1780 - Charleston, SC and disbanded November 15, 1783
Engagements: Florida; Florida 1778; Savannah and Charleston 1780.

2nd Georgia Regiment

Authorized July 5, 1776 As the Southern Division Of The Continental Army
Organized in the fall and winter of 1776 at Williamsburg, VA and was Assigned to the Georgia Brigade on Dec. 23, 1777


ENGAGEMENTS Florida Florida 1778 Savannah Charleston 1780
The regiment was captured May 12, 1780 at Charleston, SC and was disbanded Jan. 1, 1781.

Authorized on July 5, 1776

Organized in the fall and winter of 1776 at Savannah Assigned to the Georgia Brigade 23 Dec. 1777

Captured May 12, 1780 at Charleston, SC and disbanded January 1, 1781

4th Georgia Regiment
Authorized 1 February 1777

Organized in the summer and fall of 1777, Philadelphia. Consisted of 8 companies, recruited primarily in Pennsylvania. Assigned 13 December 1777 to the Georgia Brigade.
