 Mattie W. Woody Acord

 GRINNELL - Mattie W. Woody Acord, 88, Grinnell, formerly of Newton, died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease Tuesday, Jan. 8, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Graveside services were held today at Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton with the Rev. Danny Hodges, associate pastor of Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton, officiating. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton handled arrangements.

 Memorials will be accepted to the St. Frances Manor Activities Fund and may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

 The daughter of Lewis A. and Mattie J. Raines Anthony, she was born April 21, 1913, in rural Newton. She attended Jasper County rural schools in the Metz area. On April 30, 1932, she married Clifford B. Woody in Reasnor She later married Harry Acord on Sept. 2, 1961, in Clinton. Mrs. Acord was a retired factory worker for the Maytag Company and was a member of Newton Chapter 100 Order of the Eastern Star and UAW Local 997 Retirees Union. She was a lifelong resident of Newton and rural Newton, moving to Grinnell in June 2000.        

 Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Alice Woody of Newton, stepdaughter and husband, Betty and Edward Snook of Montezuma, 10 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, a brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Wanda Anthony of Newton and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a son, eight brothers and five sisters.
