A. Beenen Carroll A. Beenen, 83, of 404
E. 17th St. N. died of cancer Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Skiff Medical Center in
Newton. Memorial
services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Newton with
the Rev. Matthew Martens officiating. The body was cremated. Reese Funeral Home
in Newton is handling arrangements. Family will receive friends a
the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday and at a luncheon following
the service. Memorials will be accepted to First Lutheran Church or Hospice or
Jasper County. The son of Aldrich and Luella Latch Beenen, he was born Jan.
17, 1.919, in Alexander. He graduated from Alexander High School in 1936. On
Feb. 23, 1947, he married Garnett Berghefer in Belmond. He moved to Newton in
1966, left in 1971 and returned in 1977. Mr. Beenen served in the
United States Army during World War II, was a member of the First Lutheran
Church and Emerson Hough Chapter Izaak Walton League and the American Legion. Survivors include his wife,
three sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Sharon of Altoona, Kelly and Kathy of
North Oaks, Minn., and Kurt and Krista of Cedar Rapids, five grandchildren, one
great-granddaughter, a step-great-grandson, a sister, Dorothea Wolfe of West Des
Moines and a brother, Gerald Beenen of Owatonna, Minn. Ha was preceded in death by
