COLFAX — Donald L. Bird, 59, of Colfax died Saturday, Dec. 1, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will be at Colfax Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 to 11 a.m.

 The son of Eleanor Reye and Jess Bird, he was born Dec. 7, 1941, in Iowa City. On March 18, 1978, he married Betty Albertson in Newton. He had lived In Newton prior to moving to Colfax in 1989. He served in he United States Army.

 Survivors Include his wife, four sons and two daughters-in-law, Donald and Carolyn Bird and Keith Lester, all of Colfax, Michael and Maria Bird and Dave Walls, all of Newton, four daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty Lester of Colfax, Deann and Rodney Cormeny of Newton, Elizabeth and Tony Audas of Mitchellville, and Sue Thurman, 18 grandchildren, seven brothers and three sisters-in-law, Bill and Peggy Bird of Rock Island, Ill., Jerry and Shirley and Gary and Sandy Bird, all of Newton, Dwight, Jimmy and Mike Danner, all of What Cheer, and Roy Danner of Oskaloosa, seven sisters and three brothers-in-law, Cindy and Duane Van Zante of Knoxville, Connie Danner of North English, Brenda Vermillion, Joyce and Max Gragg and Donna and Mick Gragg, all of What Cheer, Bonnie Harlin of Buffalo, and Virginia Lester of Newton, and his mother, Eleanor Danner of What Cheer.

 He was preceded in death by his father and two grandsons.
