Janice M. Brown

 Janice M. "Jan" Brown, of 1408 S. 8th Ave. E, died of cancer Wednesday, Aug. 29, at her home. Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pence Funeral Home In Newton with the Rev. James Black, pastor of Newton Foursquare Church officiating. Burial will be in the Veteran's Section of Newton Union Cemetery.

 Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where family will be available from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County.

 The daughter of Gerald and Noreen Hedrick James, she was born July 6, 1936, in What Cheer. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1954. On Oct. 4, 1953, she married Charles W. Brown at Mt, Zion Church in rural Newton. She was a resident of Newton since 1951.

 Mrs. Brown worked for Dealers Warehouse, Winpower, and worked as a customer service representative     for Newton Manufacturing Company from 1987 to 2001. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose and enjoyed golf, bowling and fishing.

 Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott W. and Kelsie A. of Newton; a grandson: a brother, Eugene Farrel James of Chariton; and her mother of Chariton. Her father and her mother-in-law preceded her in death.
