Leonard E. Carlsen Leonard E. Carlsen, 76, of 1006 E. 15th St. S. died of a heart attack Sunday, Nov. 4, at his home. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the IOOF Cemetery In Indianola with the Rev. Willis Grant officiating. The body has been cremated. Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. There will be no visitation.
Memorials will be accepted to St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Newton or to
Parkinson's Disease Foundation. The son of Axel S. Carlsen
and Lena Kathryn Larsen Carlsen, he was born Sept. 12, 1925, in Laurens. He
graduated from Laurens High School and from Worsham College Mortuary Science in
Chicago. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. On April 15,
1955, he married Betty Jo Gordon in Fredricksburg and moved to Newton in 1956.
Mr. Carlsen was the senior
sales representative for 28 years for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and a
funeral director from 1948 to 1963. Survivors include his wife, a
daughter, Cindy Moore of Newton, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren,
two brothers, Carl Carlsen of Casper, Wyo., and Kermit of Colorado Springs,
Colo. and two sisters, Evelyn Calmer of Manson and Helen Carlsen of Topeka, Kan.
He was preceded in death by
