Paul J. Colyn

PRAIRIE CITY — Paul J. Colyn, 84, of Prairie City died Monday, Feb. 4, at his daughter's home in Pella. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Prairie City United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Poe and the Rev. Harvey Brink officiating. Burial will be at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City is handling arrangements. Friends may call after noon Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. 

The son of John and Marjorie Jennings Colyn, he was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Monroe. He graduated from Monroe High School In 1935. On Sept. 28, 1940, he married Gladys Hargrove in Memphis, Mo. He was a farmer and was a lifelong resident of Jasper County.  Mr. Colyn was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church and enjoyed flying.                                         

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Larry Plate of Pella, a sister, Darlene Brouwer of Prairie City and a brother, Robert Colyn of Monroe.        

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
