 Mark Anthony Metz

 Mark Anthony Metz, 39, of Newton died of heat failure Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Dale Dorell, chaplain of Iowa Methodist Medical Center officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Newton. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name.

 The son of Frank Mark Metz and Carol Jean Waskow, he was born Nov. 13, 1962, in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1982 and attended apprentice training for asbestos handling. He worked at Hy-Vee East and worked construction. Mr. Metz was a member of the Outdoor Train Club and the Jasper County Genealogical Society. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling, and enjoyed his puppy Annie.

 Survivors include two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Colleen and Gordon Schmidt of Baxter and Debra Jean and Jon Irwin of Waukee, his parents, special friend, Donna R. Sloan of Monroe, three nieces, four nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

 He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
