 Frances B. Murray

Frances B. Murray, 95, of 500 1st St. N. died of heart failure Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Park Centre Health Care in Newton. Memorial services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church on Newton with the Rev. Tiare Mathison-Bowie officiating. A private burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Immediate cremation took place. The family will receive friends at a coffee following the service.  Memorials will be accepted to the First Presbyterian Church or Newton Community Theatre.

 The daughter of W. C. and Frances Haley Patrick, she was born July 27, 1906, in Marceline, Mo.  She graduated from Marceline High School in 1925 and from Culver-Stockton College in 1929. On May 27, 1933, she married Alan Murray in Kansas City, Mo. They moved to Newton in 1933.

 Mrs. Murray was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, PEO Chapter AO, and was involved with the Newton Community Theatre since it’s beginning until the mid 1980s as director of plays and as an actress. She recorded for the blind through the Commission For the Blind In Des Moines, reading books and texts for recording.

 Survivors include her husband; a son, Charles of Burkittsville, Md.; two daughters, Linda Emmerson of Ames and Pricilla Conway of Dublin, Ireland; 10 grandchildren: and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
