Lawrence Nearmyer Lawrence
(Buck) Nearmyer, 78, of 1630 S. 51st Ave. E. died of cancer Saturday,
Dec. 22, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral
services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in
Newton with the Rev. John Zieman, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church and
Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center, officiating. Burial will be at
Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is
handling arrangements. . Friends may call today at the funeral
home where family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted
to the United Presbyterian Church or to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left
at the funeral home. The
son of Orville M, and Nellie Clymer Nearmyer, he was born Jan. 28, 1923, in
Fairmount. He attended Jasper County rural schools. On Feb. 22, 1948, he married
Beverly A. Snook in Newton. He was a farmer and lived on their farm for 54
years. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge, 50-year
member of Grange, belonging to the Amboy Grange and a former member of the Palo
Alto Grange, member of Jasper County Farm Bureau and honorary member of the FFA
and a trustee of Palo Alto United Presbyterian Church. Survivors
include his wife, a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Rita Nearmyer of Newton,
three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Starr-Smith and John Smith of Tonganoxie,
Kan., Jill and Robert Titus and Lori and Jeff Vos, all of Newton, eight
grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a twin brother and sister-in-law, Loren
and Louise Nearmyer
of Newton, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ardelle and Raymond Morgan of
Bondurant and Veralea and Dick Buchanan of Newton and many nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents. Newton
