Kathleen R. Schermerhorn

Kathleen R. (Kay) Schermerhorn, 72, of 900 E. 12th St. S. died from complications of a blood disorder Tuesday, Oct 16, at her home. Funeral services will be Friday at II a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Friends may call today after 6 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home.

 The daughter of C. Walter and Jannieve Mae Patterson Good, she was born Aug. 13, 1929, in Ira. She attended Jasper County Country School. On June 29, 1949, she married John R. Schermerhorn in Des Moines. She lived In California for 38 years and in Newton for 34 years. She was a receptionist for Willamette Industries in Compton, Calif., for 15 years.

 Survivors include her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Martin and Lilly of Claremont, Calif., and Jeffrey and Sandra of Newton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Deborah Schermerhorn of Tracy and Aleta and Joseph Palmiotto of Emmetsburg, 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a foster son, Richard Cooper of Fullerton, Calif., two brothers and sisters-in-law, Marlow and Judy Good of Newton and Larry and Sandra Good of Marshalltown; and a sister and brother-in-law, Judi and Ray Petersen of Victor, Montana.

 She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
