Mary Jane Underbakke

HOOVER, Ala. — Mary Jane Underbakke, 64, of Hoover, Ala., formerly of Newton, died Thursday, Jan. 31, at her home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. David Wendell, pastor of the First United Methodist Church In Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials will be to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and may be sent to 1104 Ireland Way, Birmingham, Ala., 35205, or may be left at the funeral home. 

The daughter of Kenneth E. and Ruby F. Klopping White, she was born My 21, 1937, In Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1955. On June 25, 1960, she married Deryl W. Underbakke in Newton. She grew up in Newton and also lived in Forest City, Spencer and Ankeny, prior to moving to Hoover, Ala., more than 20 years ago. She was a homemaker and an elementary school teacher in the early 1960s.  

Survivors include her husband, two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Marcia of Stafford, Va., and Clark of Hoover, Ala., three grandchildren, three sisters and a brother-in-law, Rita Skinner of Newton, Linda and John Hines of Andover, N.J. and Nancy White of Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
