Vander Weerdt PELLA
— John Vander Weerdt, 85, of Pella, formerly of Searsboro, died from
complications of Alzheimer's disease on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Pella Regional
Health Center — Sheltered Care Unit in Pella. Funeral services
will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella.
Burial will be at the Sully Cemetery. Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella is
handling arrangements. Friends may call today at the funeral home where family
will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Pella
Regional Health Center — Sheltered Care Unit. The son of
Garrit and Josie Runia Vander Weerdt, he was born Oct. 17, 1916, in Lynnville.
He lived most of his life on a farm near Searsboro until moving to Pella in
1998. On Dec. 17, 1941, he married Elizabeth Nikkel in Sully. Mr. Vander
Weerdt was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella, former
member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church and former member of the Sully
Christian School Board. He enjoyed attending auctions and collecting antique
tools. Survivors
include his wife, two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Sherwin Koopmans of
Tucson, Ariz., and Lorraine and David Weavers of Oostburg, Wis., three sons and
daughters-in-law, Dennis and Connie of Kellogg, Stanley and Bonita of Searsboro
and Randall and Krista of Sully, and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded
