 John Vander Werff, 80, of 902 E. 16th St, died of cancer Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Heritage Manor Center in Newton.

 Funeral services were held today at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Jill Flyr, pastor of Colfax United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Sully Cemetery in Sully.

 Memorials will be accepted the Killduff United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home.

 The son of Gerrit and Nellie Dunnick Vander Werff, he was born Dec. 24, 1915, in Reasnor. He attended Jasper County rural schools. He lived in rural Killduff for 58 years and in Newton for two years. On Jan.  26, 1940, he married Grace A. Huyser in Sully.  Mr. Vander Werff was a farmer and a lifetime member of the Killduff United Methodist Church and a member of Jasper County Farm Bureau.

 Survivors include his wife, three sons and a daughter-in-law, Bryce and Charlotte of Kellogg, and Lehrle and John, both of Des Moines, two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary and Jim Regur of Newton and Carla of Kuwait, nine grand children, 11 great-grandchildren, and four brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick and Doris of Sully, Lawrence and Margaret of Reasnor, Marion and Helen of Indianola and Gary and Joan of Des Moines.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
