Irene M. Wheeler

 Irene M. Wheeler, 87, of 500 1st St. N, died of pneumonia Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 am, at Reese Chapel in Newton with the Rev. David Wendell, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, officiating. A private family burial service will be at Newton Union Cemetery at a later date. Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Family will greet friends at a luncheon following the memorial service. Memorials will be accepted to Jasper County Historical Society or the First United Methodist Church.

 The daughter of Raymond and Ethel Decker Koder, she was born June 20, 1914, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School In 1931. On June 14, 1933, she married Clifford Wheeler in Des Moines. She worked at Montgomery Ward, Winpower and the Newton Daily News. She had lived in Reasnor until moving to Newton in 1942. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing bridge.

 Survivors Include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Marian Wheeler of Marion and Richard Wheeler and Pat Gill of Champaign, Ill, a sister, Edith Wood of Monroe; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter and a sister.
