 Sarah Louise Whitney

 Sarah Louise Whitney, 91, of 1208 S. 8th Ave. E. died of heart failure Thursday, Feb. 21, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Stephen Gibson, pastor of Newton Seventh Day Adventist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Union Chapel Cemetery in rural Ira. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County. 

The daughter of Thomas J. and Estella (Logsdon) Gearhart, she was born Oct. 9, 1910, in Ira. She attended school in Ira, Baxter and Newton. On May 1, 1928, she married Virgil Jontz in Newton. She later married Stanley Whitney on May 6, 1962, in Omaha, Neb. She was a homemaker and a member of the Newton Seventh Day Adventist Church.  

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Doris Jean and Richard Lukert of Newton and many nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two sisters and  brothers.
