Fern H.Whittlesey

Fern H. Whittlesey, 83, of 1201 S. 8th Ave. E. died of a heart attach Wednesday, Oct. 31, at her home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Friends may call today at the funeral home where family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accept to Progress Industries or to the Congregational United Church of Christ.

 The daughter of Roy H. and Zilphia Brown Porter, she was born March 24, 1918, in Union County. She graduated from Shannon City High School in 1936. On June 14, 1941, she married Rollan H. Whittlesey in Kansas City, Mo. She was a homemaker and had worked as a beautician. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Jasper County Senior Citizens' ceramic group, Central Iowa Barbecue Club, and past member of Kiwanis Queens and Newton Chapter 100 — OES.

 Survivors include her husband, two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard R. and Cathy of Bettendorf and David E. and Kathy of Newton, a daughter and son-in-law, Diane K. and Ron Marvelli of Newton, 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Daniel W. and June Porter of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Roy Porter Jr. of Des Moines.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, an Infant grandson and a brother.
