Opal Williams

Opal Williams, 72, of 3044 Highway 14 N. died of cancer Wednesday, Jan. 23, at her home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. David Rex officiating. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.  Friends may call after 8 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home where family will be available from 9 to 10 a.m. Memorials will be accepted in her name.

The daughter of Ivan Alloway and Erma McReynolds, she was born Aug. 11, 1929, in Monroe. On Sept. 13, 1985, she married David Williams in Eldora. She was a longtime member of the VFW Newton Post #1655 Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed bingo and watching her son's stock car races. She retired from the Best Western Newton Inn.

Survivors include her husband, three sons, Ivan, Keith and Gary Lester, all of Newton, five step-sons, Duane Lester of Florida, Bob, Burle, David and Rick Williams, four daughters, Rita Cooper, Bonnie Geerlings, Becky Webster and Rosalie Brammer, all of Newton, 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grand-children and two sisters, lva Swisher of Newton and Imogene Allison of Oskaloosa.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a grandson and a great-grandson.
