Winston Wood

Winston Wood, 75, of 604 E. 3rd St. S. Apt. 1, died of a heart attack Friday. Dec. 21, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Brian Hardee and Pastor Kenneth Van Loon officiating. Burial will be at Smyrna Cemetery in Clarke County. Visitation will be Wednesday after 9 am, at the funeral home and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with the family prior to services. Memorials to the Leon Bible Church or Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton will be accepted.

The son of Earl E. and Luella Wallace Wood, he was born Dec. 31, 1925, near Weldon. He graduated from LeRoy Consolidated School In 1943. He married Margaret Jean Sparks on June 27, l948, in Paonia, Colo.                                 

Mr., Wood farmed for 23 years in Weldon and Osceola. He also worked as a painter in Osceola after leaving farming in 1975. He served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Wood served on the Farmers Co-op Board of Directors, the Clarke Electric Board of Directors and the Clarke Farm Bureau Board of Directors.  He was a member of the Smyrna Friends Church, the Osceola Calvary Baptist Church, the Independent Bible Church in Leon, and the Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton. Mr. Wood was a resident of Newton since 1998.

Survivors include his wife, a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin Dean and Donna of Del Rio, Texas, a daughter and son-in-law, Katherine Luella Hembry and Mike of Newton, six grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Betty Wood of Canon City, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
