The Jasper County Genealogical Society (JCGS) was organized October 26, 1977 and is a Chapter of the Iowa Genealogical Society.
The objectives of the society are to:
Create and foster an interest in genealogy.
Preserve genealogical and historical data, particularly of our ancestors and the early settlers of Jasper County.
Aid individuals in compiling family genealogies.
Establish and maintain, through contributions of members, interested individuals, and the Society, a genealogical reference section, consisting of county histories, periodicals, surname file and family genealogies.
The society currently reaches the goals in these ways:
monthly programs that focus on genealogical research
transcribing genealogical data and making available to the public
providing research assistance
a library with an extensive collection of Jasper County, Iowa counties and other states genalogical material
quarterly newsletter sent to members
transcription and sales of cemetery and marriage records; plus free acess local access to these items plus other important genealogical records
