Mrs. Brock Dies At Prairie City

PRAIRIE CITY (Special) - Mrs. George (Valura) Brock, 82, of Prairie City, a lifelong resident of Jasper county, died at 9 a.m. Saturday at her home in Prairie City.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:15 p.m. Monday at the Travis Walters funeral home in Prairie City. The Rev Mark Sullivan, pastor of the Prairie City Methodist church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Sugar Grove cemetery near Newton.

Mrs. Brock is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Coy of Cedar Rapids; a son, Vernon Brock, of northeast of Prairie City; three grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emery Marshall, she was born January 10, 1877 near Newton.

Educated in rural schools and Hazel Dell academy at Newton, she was married March 11, 1896 to George Brock, who preceded her in death in 1952.

She lived a majority of her married life on a farm near Prairie City, moving to Prairie City five years ago. She was also preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters. ~ The Newton Daily News, April 25, 1959

Brock Marshall

Married, on Wednesday evening, March 11th, at the home of the bride, near this city, Rev. C. V. Cowan officiating, Miss Valura M. Marshall and Mr. George A. Brock.

Mr. Brock is one of the thrifty farmers of this county, and has charge of a two hundred acre farm near Prairie City. Miss Marshall is a young lady of excellent merit, and will be a helpmate indeed to the young man who has been so fortunate as to win her for a wife. ~ The Newton Record, March 13, 1896

George Brock, 84, Dies; Set Rites At Prairie City

Prairie City (Special) - George Brock, 84, farmer and resident of the Prairie City area for most of his life, died early yesterday afternoon at his farm home following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock at the Travis Walters Funeral Home here with burial in the Sugar Grove cemetery.

Mr. Brock was born June 6, 1868, in London, Ky., and moved with the family to this area at an early age. On March 11, 1896, he was married to Valura Marshall and couple farmed between Prairie City and Newton.

He is survived by his wife; one son, George Vernon Brock of Colfax; one daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Coy of Cedar Rapids, and three grandchildren. Mr. Brock was the last of a family of nine children.

Officiating at tomorrow's services will be Rev. John Arlington. ~ The Newton Daily News, August 20, 1952.

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark - William H. Brock, 77, of Mountain Home, Ark., a former resident of Jasper County, died Friday, June 11, at the Baxter Country Regional Hospital in Mountain Home.

Private funeral services and burial will be held at a later date at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Metz. Survivors are his wife, Nanette; a son, Tim W. of Mountain Home, Ark.; two grandchildren; a brother, John W. of Newton; a sister, Marjorie Yost of Newton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ragan, and a sister, Bonnilee Seney.

Mr. Brock, a retired farmer, was a former member of the Jasper Country Iowa board of Education and the Iowa Masterswine Producers and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

The son of Ira and Bessie Zoe Dales Brock, he was born Feb 16, 1916 in Jasper County. He was married to Nanette Arndt April 5, 1946 in Nashua. Mr. Brock resided in Newton prior to moving to Mountain Home in 1980. ~ Newton Daily News, June 1993.
