Obituary of James Allfree
Colfax - Funeral services for James K. Allfree, 91, a
lifelong resident of Jasper County, will be held at 10 a.m.
Thursday, Sept 11, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in
Newton.
The Rev. Vince Waltz, pastoral minister of the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in Newton will conduct services.
Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials to the Colfax-Mingo Community Schools may be
left at the funeral home or the Colfax-Mingo Schools.
Mr. Allfree died Monday morning at the Des Moines General
Hospital.
Survivors are four sons, Robert Lakin of Mountain Home,
Ark., Jack Allfree of Newton, Richard Allfree of Ames and
Bill Allfree of Colfax, two daughters, Dorothy Johnson of
Newton and Betty Swihart of Colfax; 22 grandchildren and 25
great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Vera
Lundgerg, of Newton.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Myra, April
7, 1982, a son, Kenneth, and a daughter, Marjorie.
Mr. Allfree farmed and later served in the maintenance
department of the State Highway Commission for more than 35
years.
The son of H.I. and Amanda Bell Sanderson Allfree, he was
born June 9, 1895 on a farm northwest of Newton. He was
married to Myra Jane Baker Feb. 23, 1923 in Des Moines. ~

Allfree, 80, of 400 Ryan, Lot 15, Colfax, a lifelong
resident of the Newton and Colfax communities, will be held
at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wallace Funeral Home in
Newton.
Father Omer Woltering, pastor of the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church in Colfax will conduct services.
Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Wake services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the
funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a
sister, a daughter, Marjorie, a son, Kenneth, and two
grandchildren.
Mrs. Allfree, a member of the Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church in Colfax, had been an employee of the
Newton Manufacturing Co. and the United Telephone Co.
The daughter of Frank and Flora Bishop Baker, she was
born Mary 24, 1901 in Newton and attended Newton
schools.
She was married Feb. 23, 1923 in Des Moines. ~ The Newton

Obituary
KELLOGG — Jack E. Allfree, 81, of Kellogg died today, June 30, 2006, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.
A funeral service will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Larry Pauley of Pleasant View United Methodist Church in rural Newton officiating. Burial will be at Metz Cemetery.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name. ~ The Newton Daily News, June 30, 2006.

Jack E. Allfree, the son of James K. Allfree and Myra Baker, was born on December 17, 1924 at Newton, Iowa. He graduated from the Colfax High School in Colfax, Iowa and attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Jack served his country during World War II in the US Navy as a supply boat Captain. After serving his tour of duty, he served several years in the US Army.
Following his military career, he worked as a shipfitter at the Newport News shipbuilding yard in Virginia. On December 31, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa, Jack was united in marriage to Betty Strovers. Jack has been a resident of Newport News, Virginia, Freehold, New Jersey, Newton, Iowa and Kellogg, Iowa. Jack loved his family and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and bowling. He was a member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church and the American Legion, and had served as Post Commander in both Kellogg and Newton.
On Friday morning, June 30, 2006, Jack died at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, David Keith Allfree and two sisters-in-law.
Those left to honor the memory of Jack include his wife, Betty Allfree of Kellogg, Iowa, his sons and daughters-in-law, John Allfree of Montezuma, Iowa, Mike and Connie Allfree of San Bernardino, California, and Kenneth and Cathy Allfree of Phoenix, Arizona, his daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy Van Camp of Mimbers, New Mexico Evelyn Allfree and her significant other, James Fox of Waterloo, Iowa and Lisa and LeRoy Symbol of West Palm Beach, Florida, nine grandchildren, Helen Shearer, Adam Allfree, Donald K. Allfree Jr., Tammy L. Finn, Jessica Fox, Justin Fox, Jeffrey Fox, Ashley Nicole Pierson, and Austin Pierson, five great-grandchildren, Hannah Allfree, Allison Shearer, Nate Shearer, Jake Shearer and Stephanie Allfree, his brothers, Richard Allfree of Story City, Iowa and Bill Allfree of Colfax, Iowa, and his sisters, Dorothy Allfree Probasco of Newton, Iowa, Betty Allfree Swihart of Colfax, Iowa and his many friends.
