Mrs. Chas. A. Herbold, 48, of Newton, died Friday night at the Skiff hospital, as a result of accidentally taking paris green earlier in the day.
The poison was taken by mistake about 2 p.m. and it was not found necessary to call a doctor until 8 p.m. She was immediately taken to the hospital where she died at about 10 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbold were known in this community having resided several years in the Goddard vicinity. They lived 1 1/2 miles northeast of Newton. She had been a deaf-mute for a number of years.
Funeral services were conducted from the Toland funeral home in Newton Sunday afternoon with Dr. W. H. Blancke, officiating.
Mrs. Laura Herbold, daughter of Casper and Sophia Menning was born at White Lake, S. D. Aug. 24, 1887, and died Friday night at the Skiff hospital in Newton.
Mrs. Herbold's death was the result of accidentally taking paris green Friday afternoon. She was believed to be color blind.
Surviving relatives are her husband; three sons, Roy of Vinton and Glen and Howard of Newton, a brother, William Menning of Sanborn and a sister, Mrs. Walter Jacobs of Primghar.
Interment was in the Sugar Grove cemetery at Metz with the following pallbearers: Geo. Weirick, Ray Carrier, Elverne Herbold, Alan Herbold, Willie Herbold and Arthur Watt. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa, June 18, 1936.

Charles Herbold Dies Sunday
Charles A. Herbold, 83, 4133 W. 9th St., Des Moines, a former Newton resident, died Sunday morning at the Americana Nursing Home, Des Moines.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church, Des Moines, and burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today at Arnold's Funeral Home, Des Moines. Memorial contributions to the Cancer Fund will be accepted.
Surviving are his widow, Anne; a daughter, Charlotte of Ames; three sons, Roy, Glenn and Howard, all of Newton; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Surviving are three brothers, Walter, Victor and William, all of Montana. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura, and four brothers.
Mr. Herbold was born Aug. 8, 1886, at Newton. He resided in Newton until 1942. ~ The Newton Daily News, September 15, 1969.
