Richard A. Lincoln, 79, of Newton died on Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. ~ Newton Daily News, July 14, 2009 Visitation: The family will greet friends from 6-8 P.M., Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the funeral home. Funeral Service: 1:30 P.M., Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the funeral home. Interment: Immediately following the funeral service on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. Those left to honor Richard's memory are his son, Tim (Teresa) Lincoln of Colome, South Dakota; step-father, Ralph Bates of Newton; his step-brother, Dale Hume of Monroe; and 2 half-sisters, Patricia Johnson of Albia and Joyce Palm of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Albert and Alice "Pat" (Robison) Lincoln; wife, Mary Lou in 2004; and a sister, Rosemary Benson. Richard was a graduate of Monroe High School and worked as a pipe fitter and skilled trades' worker for the Maytag Company for almost 32 years. He was a member of the UAW Local 997 Retirees Union and the Coin Club in Grinnell. Richard enjoyed bowling. Born to Ernest Albert and Alice "Pat" (Robison) Lincoln on April 30, 1930, in Grinnell, he had lived in Newton since 1974. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Engle on June 17, 1950, in Newton. A graduate of Monroe High School in Monroe, he was a pipe fitter and skilled trades worker for the Maytag Company for almost 32 years. Richard was a member of the UAW Local 997 Retirees Union and Coin Club of Grinnell. He enjoyed bowling. Survivors include his son, Tim (Teresa) Lincoln of Colome, S.D.; his stepfather, Ralph Bates of Newton; his stepbrother, Dale Hume of Monroe; and two half sisters, Patricia Johnson of Albia and Joyce Palm of Monroe.
