George "Sim" Kennedy was born December 25, 1837, in Hendricks Co., Indiana and died October 28, 1886 in Palo Alto Township, Jasper Co., Iowa. Kennedy was married to Mary (Veach), the young widow of John Hitchler; she died in 1885.
On that fateful day, October 28, 1886, Kennedy sold some hogs, then treated a man to a drink because he "could afford it" as he pulled both bills and silver from a cotton sack to pay the tab.
Later that evening Kennedy was attacked and killed inside his house, the paper money stolen and the house set on fire to cover up the crime. the murderer was never apprehended.
