Anna Batterton was born April 9, 1792, in Kentucky and died in 1857. She was buried on a hilltop on their family farm, later to become the Sugar Grove Cemetery. She married Lawson Sims, probably in Kentucky before moving to Indiana and then on to Iowa.
The Sims farm was the first in this area and served as a stop over for many new settlers. The farm was located on the hill just northwest of the cemetery.
A very tragic death occurred on their farm when a hired man murdered and dismembered his wife and then hung himself. The couple was buried in unmarked graves in this cemetery.
