Four Generations - Richey Family
Linn County has a rich past to ponder and the History Center is the place to start. Here you will find documents and artifacts from our pioneer beginnings to the present. Letters to friends in the East and a farmer's grain cradle reveal prairie life at the turn of the century; a Civil War sword and World War II ration books remind us of our ties to the nation's turbulent past; a workman's finishing tools and industrial models reveal the evolution of technology. Each artifact has its own story to tell.

The History Center collects materials that illustrate changes in social institutions, education, arts, and literature, industries and commerce. The Center also emphasizes the contributions of local individuals and families to the state of Iowa, the nation, and the world.
Located near the 8th Avenue Bridge, a short walk south from the Public Library, the History Center displays both long-term and changing exhibits. Additionally the Center houses a museum shop, a group meeting room, and archives for preservation and research. It is also the location of the Genealogical Society of Linn County, Iowa.
The Linn County Historical Society administers the History Center. The Society collects, preserves, interprets and exhibits artifacts and archival materials of historical significance to the Linn County region in a permanent public facility. Society members provide volunteer and financial support to meet the Museum's operating goals. We invite anyone interested in membership to contact the Society for more details.
