Edward Charles Stastny, 69, of Route 2, Mount Vernon, was dead on arrival
Tuesday at Mercy Hospital following an apparent heart attack.
Born Nov. 6, 1913, at Cedar Rapids, he married Mary Ann Plotz on Nov. 6,
1934, at Rock Island, Ill. He was a foreman at Iowa Steel, where he was
employed for 47 years prior to retirement, and was a member of Bertram United
methodist Church, the International Molders Union Local 193, Fraternal Order of the
Eagles, Junior American Czech Group 288 and Cedar Rapids Aerie Club 2272.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Bernice Simparosa of
Cedar Rapids, and Linda Bragg of Mount Vernon; a son, Dave of Cedar Rapids;
12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Fields of Cedar
Rapids.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dennis
Tevis of the United Methodist Church, Solon, Burial: Campbell Cemetery near
Mount Vernon. Friends may call at the chapel after 1 p.m. today.

Berthold Joseph Newburger, 85, former president of Newman's Department
Store in Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday in a Kansas City, Mo., nursing home
following a long illness.
Born Aug. 1, 1897, at Phildelphia, he graduated from Virginia Military
Institute and served in the field artillery in World War I. He served as
president of his family's business, Newman's Department Store, for 30 years before
his retirement in 1958, when he moved to Coral Gables, Fla. His wife, Dorothy,
died in 1981.
While in Cedar Rapids, he served on the boards of the Red Cross,
Salvation Army, Public Health Nursing Association, Welfare Bureau, St. Luke's
Hospital, Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts, Executive Club and Cedar Rapids Symphony
Orchestra. he was a member of Temple Judah.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Walter Jiersteiner of Shawnee Mission,
Kan., and Mrs. Jerald Greenblatt of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; and a sister Mrs. E. B. Berkowitz of Kansas City, Mo.
The body was cremated. Family services will be conducted today in Kansas
City

Donald C. McGuire, 72, a former resident of Cedar Rapids, died June 3 in
an Aitkin, Minn., hospital.
Born March 11, 1911, at Goodland, Kan., he moved to Cedar Rapids as a
youngster with his family. He married Lillian H Kelley on May 5, 1932, at Cedar
Rapids. She died in 1970. Before moving to Aitkin in 1949, he was employed
by Cherry-Burrell Corp. In Minnesota, he farmed and was an Iron ore sampler.
Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Coombs of Aitkin; Minn.; three sons,
Michael, James and Daniel, all of Aitkin; a sister, Betty Kalina of Denver,
Colo.; two brothers, Kenneth of Golden, Colo., and Arthur of Mena, Ark.; and 14
grandchildren.
Sevices and burial were Tuesday at Aitkin, Minn.

The Rev. Carl E. Denning, 70, of Ferguson, Iowa, a former Cedar Rapids
area resident, died Friday at Marshalltwon Area Community Hospital.
Born April 25, 1913, at Berlin, Wis., he married Elvera Pettis on Nov.
26, 1938, at Chicago. He attended Milton (Wis.) College, and Central YMCA
College and Northern Baptist Seminary, both in Chicago. he served at the Baptist
Church at Prairieburg and Pine Creek Baptist Church at Quasqueton and lived in
West Virginia before retiring in 1978. They moved to Ferguson in January.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother, Myrtle Denning of
Wautoma, Wis.; three sons, Robert C. of Cedar Rapids, David P. of Elk City, Okla..,
and Peter D. of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Judith Zesch of Ferguson,
Karla Kelly of Falls Church, Va., and Melodie Cantrell of Humble, Texas; and 12
grandchildren.
His body wass donated to the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des
Moines. Memorial services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ferguson Christian Bible
Church.

Charles H. and Mary Augusta "Gussie" DeWoody, 89 and 85 respectively, of
Coggon were killed in a traffic accident Tuesday at highways 151 and 13 Marion.
He was born Sept. 10 1893, at Coggon, and she was born Sept., 19, 1897,
near Coggon. They were married Nov. 10, 1915 at Central City and were members
of First Christian Church in Coggon.
Surviving are two sons, Harold of Cedar Rapids and Carl of Olin; two
daughters, Mrs. Helen Eiler of Coggon and Mrs. Esther Cooling of Cedar Rapids; 13
grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by three
sisters, Mrs. Ella Mack of Anamosa, Mrs. Edith Jones of Alburnett and Mrs. Estelle
Trott of San Marcus, Calif.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Parish Church, Coggon, by the Rev.
Nancy Nichols. Burial: Coggon Cemetery. Friends may call at Murdoch Funeral
Home, Coggon, after 3 p.m. today. A memorial fund has been established.

Alan B. Coffin, 66, of 1439 Council St. NE, died Wednesday, July 23,
2003, in Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Private family services
willl be held on Friday at Cedar Memorial. The Rev. Richard Marsceau will
officiate. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar
Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
Survivors include his wife Dee; two sons, Brad and wife Susan of Solon
and Brian; two daughters, Becky Baker and Rev. Coffin all of Cedar Rapids; two
sisters, Mary Lou Baker of Maynard and Julie Rogers of Chippewa Falls, Wis.;
and a brother, Robert of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by five
grandchildren, Andrea, Jennifer, Brian Jr., Nicholas and Ericka; a great-granchild Colton;
many nieces, nephew, shooting friends and his pet beagle, Snoopy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Vohn and Ronald.
Alan was born Dec. 6, 1936, in Strawberry Point, the son of Vohn and
Helen Wolfe Coffin. He married Glendora "Dee" Shaffer on June 3, 1955 in Cedar
Rapids. Alan was a machinist and worked for 17 years at FMC and retired in 1999
from Iowa Precision Industries after 14 years of service. Alan was a member
of Otter Creek Gun Club, Izaac Walton League, North Linn Gun Club and the NRA.
Alan was an avid outdorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap and skeet
shooting and will be greatly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Alan's name.

Pat J. Davidson, 94, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday July 22,
2003,in Johnston, Iowa, following a long battle with emphysema. Services: 10 a.m.
Friday, St. Mathew's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Gerald Condon.
Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at
Stewart Funeral Home, where a vigil service begins at 6:30 p.m.
Survivors include a son, Chuck (Charlette) of Naperville, Ill., three
daughters, Carol (Kris) Frederiksen and Anita Davidson, all of Columbus,
Ohio, and Kathy Davidson of West Des Moines; six granchildren, Joanie (Todd)
Forfinski, John Davidson, Tim (Jennifer) Christy, Casey Christy, Anne and Matthew
Remmy; and three great-grandchildren, Cole, Claire, and Cara Forfinski.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her parents; two
brothers and a sister.
Pat was born July 4. 1919 in Chicago Heights, Ill., the daughter of Peter
and Anna Arcisauskas. She married Charles Davidson on July 8, 1942, in
Chicago. Pat was most proud of raising her four childrne and ensuring that they
all received a good education and graduated from college. Her greatest joy was
having her entire family gathered in one place. She worked for many years at
Paramount Pharmacy and retired from McKesson-Robbins Pharamaceuticals. She
was a proud and faithful volunteer at Mercy Hospital and was involved in many
activites at St. Matthews Parish.
In lieu of flowers, Pat's family asks that you contribute to the American
Lung Association or Mercy Hospital Hospice in her memory.

Andrew L. Rogers died suddenly Dec. 24, 2003, at his sister's home in
Savannah, Ga. He lived with his mother, Jenny Rogers and his beloved orange cat,
Mike, in Mount Dora, Fla.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his sister, Beth (Michael)
Kruse, and two nephews, Davis and Dylan all of Savannah. He is also surveved by
an uncle and aunt in Adel, Iowa, and by several cousins.
Andy was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa , on March 13, 1963. He also lived in
several cities in Florida. he graduated from the University of West Florida
in Pensacola in 1984. he was a writer for several years for the Tampa
Tribune., where his work won many gold and silver awards from the international
Newspaper and Marketing Association.
He later lived in Coral Springs, Fla., and studied to obtain a master's
degree in social psychology at Florida Atlantic University.
He was a creative, funny, sensitive, and very kind man. He delighted and
blessed the lives of his many friends, as well as his family, who are
grateful God loaned Andy to them for a
.
Andy was cremated Dec. 27 and will be interred in the spring next to his
father in a small country cemetery in Fremont, Iowa, as he wished. Pine trees
surround the cemetery, and Andy had happy memories of playing there on family
visits when he was a child. When his father was buried there in 2001, Andy
said it made him feel better to leave his dad with other family members. Now,
Andy belongs there, too; the gift God loaned us, this special person, has
gone home.
Any memorial gestures can be made to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

Mary Margaret Kinney, 80, a resident of Cottage Grove Place, died there
Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Matthew's Catholic
Church. The Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate. Burial: Mount Calvary
Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today,
with a wake service beginning at 7 p.m.
Survivors include two sons, John P. (Marianne) of Omaha and William J.
(Merrianne) of Cedar Rapids, a daughter, Anne M. of Omaha; her brother-in-law
and sisters-in-law, Frank E. Kinney of Cedar Rapids, Mary Frances Davison of
Santa Maria, Calif., and Helen Kinney Copley of La Jolla, Calif,; eight
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was born Feb. 5, 1922 in Aledo, Ill., to Leo Henry and Madoline
Strathman, and the family moved to Cedar Rapids shortly there after. Mary
attended local Cedar Rapids schools, graduating from Mount Mercy Academy. On Aug. 31,
1944, she married Joseph P. Kinney, Joe died in 1990,. In later years much
of Mary's time ws spent at the family cabin on Lake Delhi during summers, and
winters at her condo in Scottsdale, Ariz. She enjoyed tending her plants,
especially her jumbo impatiens at Delhi. An accomplished knitter, she handmade
dozens of afghans and slippers for her extended family. Having incredible
recall for people, places and events, Mary reveled in entertaining gatherings with
her recollections of the past. Mary and Joe's proudest life achievement was
seeing their children graduate from college and become successful in their work.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St.
Matthew's Church.

Ray R. Orr, 91, formerly of 147 18th St. SW and Cottage Grove Place,
Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003 in West Ridge Care Center, following
complications of myoplastic anemia. Services: 10 :30 a.m. Thursday. Salem United
Methodist Church, by the Rev. Linda Bibb, with military rites. Friends may
call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation
Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a son, Robert Orr and wife Ann of Ontario, Canada; a
brother, Dr. Keith Orr and wife Jeanette of Waterloo; and a granddaughter,
Shannon Orr and husband Marco Nardone of Alberta, Canada.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; his parents, Charles and
Myrtle (McKissick) Orr; a sister, Lois Bettis; two brothers, Ralph and Lyal Orr;
and a daughter-in-law, Janet Orr.
Roy was born July 7, 1911, in Minneola, Kan. He married Edna Schmidt on
April 21, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa. He waa a salesman throughout his life and
finished his career working for Heabelll Lumber, He also sold real estate
for Lucken Real Estate. Roy served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a
member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Memorials for Roy may be made to Camp Courageous.

Hiawatha
Merle LeRoy Drexler, 79, 1235 Eisenhower Rd., died peacefully in his home
surrounded by his family on Sunday Jan. 5, 2003. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St.
Pius Catholic church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. David Schatz. Friends may
call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center,
Marion, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery,
Prairieburg, with military rites.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn; thier children, Terry (Patti) Drexler of
Cedar Rapids, Debby (Bob) Wernimont of Cedar Rapids.Merle "Sonny" Drexler of
Thorton, Colo., Shannon Drexler of Naperville, Ill., and Danny Clark of Cedar
Rapids. A sister Margaret (Lawrence) Joslin of Cedar Rapids; and a
sister-in-law, Bea Drexler. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Connie Jo
Drexler; three sons, Rodney Lynn Drexler, Jeffrey Jefferies and Wayne Clark ; a
brother, Ray Drexler and a sister, Dorothy Woodward.
He was born the son of Louis and Rose Kula Drexler on Dec. 1 1923, in
Cedar Rapids. On July 13, 1974, in St. Pius Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, he
was united in marriage to Carolyn Marie Pigman. He served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II. Merle was a self-employed home builder. He was a member
of St. Pius Catholic Church and VFW Post 788, which will conduct the military
rites.
Merle was a dad and grandpa to many. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
A memorial fund has been established in Merle's memory.

Hiawatha
Leon I. "Lee" Smith, 84, of 308 Pebble Lane, Hiawatha, died Saturday,
June 7, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long battle with
Alzheimer's disease, emphysema and asthma. Memorial services will be held at
a later date. As many of you know Leon, even at the end, his generous wish
was to donate his body to the University of Iowa. Arrangements by Cedar
Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; his children, Laura Andersen and
husband David of Cedar Rapids, John Ingle and fiancee Jackie Dunlap of Marble Rock,
Julie Clancy of Hiawatha and Lissa Pearson and husband Bill of Cedar Rapids,;
a brother, Virgil Smith and wife Alice of Urbandale; a nephew, Douglas Smith
and family; a niece, Jeanne Woodbury and husband Jerry; eight grandchildren and
13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Leon was born Aug. 8, 1918, in Burlington, Iowa. he married Mary R.
Ingle on May 24, 1975, in Cedar Rapids. He was a test technician for Rockwell
Collins, retiring in 1983 after 30 years. He also worked part-
time at Sears in the paint department for 21 years. He was a member of
Crescent Masonic Lodge No. 25 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Consistory and the El Kahir
Shrine Temple. He served in the U.S. Army furing World War II and was a member
of VFW Post 788. He also volunteered at the Department of Human Services and
was a former member of the IBEW Union.
Leon lived his live as a gentle man and will be fondly missed by all.

Fund, St. Luke's Hospice, Camp Courageous or to the charity of your choice.

Nora L. White. widow of Edward White a resident of Robins and life long rsident of Linn County, died monday in Americana Nursing Center. Born July 11, 1884 in Kansas, she was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Robins and the ladies Aid.
Surviving is a sister Mrs. A. B. Frentress of robins.
Services; Turner Chapel east at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Elmer West; of Garrison. Burial: Shilo Cemetery. The family suggests that friends may, if they wish, contribute to the memorial fund at the Robins Church of the Brethren, friends may call at the chapel

Foster Edward White, 58 of 1332 of Ellis Blvd. NW. a retired employe of the Cedar Rapids Block Co., and a Cedar rapids resident 56 years, died early Monday after a sudden illness. Born at monona Nov. 19, 1902, he was married in cedar Rapids to Catherine Louise Wharton Feb. 19, 1940; surviving are his wife; 2 daughters and a son in Chicago; a step daughter, Mrs. Ernest Klouda, and a sister, Mildred Smith, both of Cedar rapids: his step mother Nora White of Robins, and several grandchildren (my note, I am ne of these grandchildren)

Myrtle M. Werner
Myrtle M. Werner, 104, died Dec. 25 at the Northbrook Manor Care Center
in Cedar Rpaids. She was born the daughter of George and Henrietta Bedell
Sisler on Oct. 17, 1879 in Cedar County. On March 6, 1907 she was married to
Edward J. Werner, who died in 1953. She had been a resdient of the Care Center
for the past nine years and a Cedar Rapids resident since 1945.
There are no immediate survivors. She was preceded in death by her son,
Howard, who died in 1980.
Private services were conducted at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion with
burial at a later date

Funeral Services for Kenneth Martin, 51; of 1924 First Ave, S.W., Cedar Rapids, are pending at the Brosh Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Mr. Martin died early today at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids of injuries received in an accident at his home on April 29.
He was a former Muscatine resident.

Kenneth Martin was born May 5, 1920 in Missouri, a son of Thomas and Alice Woodward Martin. He was a former Muscatine resident.
His marriage to Sharon Brick took place July 31, 1971 at Cedar Rapids.
Mr. Martin had been employed as a truck driver for Roadway Express, formerly Poole Transfer.
He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 371 of Rock Island, Ill; and the John Harold Kemble Post 1565 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Muscatine.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sharon Martin at home; a son Kenneth Martin of Miami, Fla; two daughters, Diane and Debbie Martin of Muscatine; six brothers, John of Lone Tree, Harold of Muscatine, William of Grandview, Arthur of North Liberty, Thomas of Ainsworth and Eugene of Orlando, Fla; four sisters, Elizabeth Keefe (sic-Keef) of Omaha, Neb., Vesta Nelson of Orlando, Fla., Alice Yotter of West Liberty and Myrtle Hamilton of Conesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

1-Elliott L Baird , son of Samuel Baird and Salinee Patterson, was born
about 1861 in Pennsylvaina, died in Linn Co, Iowa, and was buried in
Clarence Cemetery, Clarence, Iowa.
General Notes:E.L. Baird Claimed By Death Monday
Elliot L Baird passed away Monday morning May 12th at the home of his
son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Clay, four miles south of Center
Point. He would have been 86 years old May the 19th.
Because of advancing age and the accompanying decline in health Mr. Baird
and curtailed his activities during the past several years, but his last
illness was of short duration. He became ill on Sunday May 4th and his
death occurred on Monday of the following week.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Sarchett Funeral Home,
with the Rev. Frank Ward of Cedar Rapids conducting the last rites. Mrs. C
E. Liabo and Miss Ida Holland accompanied by Mrs. T.E. Condon sang "Asleep
in Jesus" and I'm Acquainted With the Author So I Know the Book is True."
The pall bearers were Ernest Lanning, Earl Lanning, Will Lanning, A.H. Ring,
A.E. Andrews and Ed Matheny. At the conclusion of the service the body was
conveyed to Clarence for burial in the cemetery at that place.
Native of Pennsylvania
Mr. Baird was a native of Pennsylvania. He was born at Academia in that
state, one of seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Baird, and he was
the last survivor of that family.
In the year 1891 he was married to Miss Anna Belle Freeman of Clarence, Iowa
Mrs. Baird passed awayin 1893 when their second child was born.
Mr. Baird farmed form many years in vicinity of Clarence, coming to the
Center Point community some twenty years ago. For twenty-eight years he had
made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Clay.
He is survived by two daughters -- Mrs. Clay of Center Point; and Mrs. Elmer
Sprout of Salem, South Dakota; and three grandchildren Miss Vera Sprout of
Parker, South Dakota; Willard Clay of Cedar Rapids; and Lucile Clay of
Center Point.

Santina Antionette Pusateri, 85, died at her home surrounded by her loving family, Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, after a long illness.
A Rosary was recited and vigil held at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Services were at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Msgr. Karl Glovik. Burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Pusateri and Rose (John) Satariano, both of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Joseph Pusateri of Cedar Rapids and Frank Pusateri of Hiawatha; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Frances Scolaro Pusateri; two brothers, Marino and Anthony Pusateri; and a sister, Prudence McEowen. Santina was born June 13, 1918 in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Pasquale Pusateri born May 21, 1877 - Termini-Imerese, Sicily. He remained a resident of Sicily till age 12 (1880). He came to the United States and first located in Chicago. Pasquale was there for nine years and he finished his education. He then left his textbooks and went into the fruit and wholesale commissions - also engaging in construction work in Chicago. His parents were Agostino and Maria (Delise) Pusateri. Agostino was a former expert in fruit culture who passed away in his native land in 1890 after acquiring a very comfortable competency. Maria later came to Cedar Rapids to live with her children. Agostino and Maria had seven children. Four brothers: Pasquale, Peter, Antonio and Augostino were joint partners in a retail fruit business. The interprise had a small store on 2nd Ave. and also an enlargement on 1st Ave. Daughter Maria became the wife of Antonio Scolaro of Cedar Rapids. Son Joseph was a merchant in Iowa City, and Rosy made her home with her mother. Augostino was also engaged as a foreman in Russel Candy Co. being recognized as an expert candy manufacturer. Geneology Note: Offspring of Maria and Anthony Scolaro: Frances Elizabeth (Frank Pusateri), Fred A. (Josephine Mary Battaglia), Rose T. (Anthony Gallo), Josephine (August Gureno), Augustino T., Mary Magdalene (Antonio Plumbo) and Frances A. Daughter Frances Elizabeth Scolaro married Frank Pusateri; they had four daughters: Santina, Mary, Prudence and Rose and four sons: Marino, Anthony, Joseph and Frank Jr. Prudence married Frank Pusateri and they had four sons: Jerry, Terry, Larry and Gary. Rose married John Satariano and they had three sons. Fred A. Scolaro, son of Mary Pusateri and Anthony Scolaro married Josephine Mary Battaglia and they had two sons: Anthony Russel and Joseph F.; and four daughters: F. Scolaro (Stillborn), Mary Jeanette (married John Edward Klassen), Josephine P. (married Donald Condit), and Delores Rita.

Charles Allen Scolaro Jr., 37 of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 26, 1995 in Mercy Medical Center after a sudden illness. Chuck was born March 23, 1958 in Little Rock Arkansas and married Renea Jensen on July 30, 1994 in Independence. Survivors include his wife Renea; his parents Charles Sr. and Linda Scolaro of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Tammy Siefert of Amana, Dori Scolaro of Phoenix and Gina England of Petaluma, California, one brother Michael of Cedar Rapids and his in-laws Ronald and Virginia Jensen, Independence. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Visitation and rosary at Turner Chapel West, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Joseph Schneider. Burial was at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. John Pfautz Rites Were Held Sunday
Funeral services for John M. Pfautz were held at the C.B. Johnson funeral home sin Mount Vernon, on Sunday afternoon in charge of Rev. George A. Stauffacher of First Evangelical church in Cedar Rapids. Burial was in the Lisbon cemetery. Pall bearers were grandsons Willard Pfautz, John Arnold, Lauren, Warren and John Tonne, and Albert Jordan.
Mr. Pfautz, who had been in failing health for several years, passed away last Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Tonne, where he had gone after the death of his wife just 12 days previous to his death. John M. Pfautz, son of Jacob S. and Federicka Hammer Pfautz, was born February 4 1858 in Lisbon, where he lived his entire life with the exception of four years spent in Missouri after the death of his mother, when he was five years old. On Dec. 28, 1882 he was united in marriage with Miss Alice Heisey (this is an error: her name was Anna Elizabeth Heisey) and they established their home in the house where they always lived until her death. Mr. Pfautz was a lover of nature and had accumulated a big collection of various nature formations. He had traveled extensively, making trips to Hawaii, Tahiti in the South Sea Islands, and the Philippines; he visited the Canadian Rockies, and several times the parks, Yosemite, Yellowstone, and the Glacier. On one of the trips to Glacier he and Mrs. Pfautz walked the entire distance through the park. Mr. Pfautz was a member of the Evangelical church. His survivors are six daughters. Mrs. Edna Clark of Chicago, Mrs. Geneva Finson of Central City, Mrs. Luelda Hoodmaker and Mrs. Mary Tonne of Mount Vernon, Mrs. Bernice Williams and Mrs. Mildred Davis of Lisbon: one son Henry of Laurens, 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren: also two cousins Mrs. Lou West and Mrs. Anna Pfautz of Mount Vernon and a niece, Mrs. Metta Williams of Saskatoon, Canada, the daughter of his only sister, Mrs. Mary Pfautz Williams who passed away many years ago. Mrs. Martha Mohn, Miss Esther, Clarence, Byron, and Forrest were five children preceeding him in death. Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. Clark of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Finson,, daughter Mildred and Miss Betty Butters of Central City; Henry Pfautz of Laurens; Mr. and Mrs. Willard Pfautz, Mr. and Mrs. John Arnold and Nancy, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jordan and C. E. "Rites Held Monday For Mrs. John Pfautz
Funeral services for Mrs. John Pfautz were held from the home in Lisbon on Monday afternoon. Rev. George A. Stauffacher of First Evangelical church in Cedar Rapids conducted the service and Rev. G.S. Hamilton assisted. Burial was in the Lisbon cemetery. Pall bearers were sons-in-law Roy Clark, E.R. Finson, Charles Williams, Irl Hoodmaker, and Harold Davis and the oldest grandchild, Willard Pfautz. Anna Elizabeth Pfautz, one of eleven children of Henry and Susanna Heisey, was born in Castle Grove, Jones county Iowa , on Aug. 21, 1862, and passed away at her home on Saturday morning after a long illness. On Dec. 28, 1882 she was united in marriage with John M. Pfautz and they established their home in the house where they have always lived and would have had their 60th wedding anniversary in December. They were the parents of twelve children and made a home for fifteen years for one grandson, Robert Mohn, now of San Francisco. Mrs. Pfautz was a lifelong member of the Evangelical church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Roy Clark of Chicago, Mrs. Geneva Finson of Central City, Mrs. Luelda Hoodmaker, and Mrs. Mary Tonne of Mount Vernon, Mrs. Bernice Williams, and Mrs. Mildred Davis; one son Henry, of Laurens; 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Alice Pickford of Nevada. She is preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Martha Mohn and Esther, and three sons, Clarence, Byron and Forrest.

Services for Mrs. Eva Ruth Agey, 86, of Cedar Rapids, a former Mitchellville resident, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Moffitt Funeral Home at Mitchellville, with burial in Mitchellville Cemetery.
Mrs. Agey died Monday in Cedar Rapids. She was born in Cassopolis, Michigan and lived in Mitchellville several years.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Leland Palmer and Mr. R___ Moser, both of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Henry Herold of Baltimore, nine grandchildren and 25 great-grand children.

...Mrs. Helen Bruce, an aged lady and an old resident of Troy Mills, died Saturday morning, Sept. 23, after an illness of about two weeks. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the M. O. church on the south side, services being conducted by Rev. Keopple. Interment was made in the Hoover cemetery, four miles south of here, where her husband was buried some years ago. Two sons and one daughter survive her, William, of Minnesota; Andrew, of Nebraska and Mrs. J. M. Phillips, of this vicinity, all of whom were at her bedside when she passed away.

in St. Lukes Hospital following a short illness. Services: at 11 a.m.
Saturday at Murdock Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
by the Rev. John Seitz of Antioch Christian Church of Marion.
Visitation : 10-11 a.m., Saturday at the Funeral home. Burial will be
at a later date in Linwood Cemetary, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife Shannon of Cedar Rapids; his parents
David J. and Barb J.(Ross) Butterbaugh Sr. of Washington; a son Stanley
Ray Jr. of Springville, Iowa. Three stepdaughters. Alyssa Varner,
Shayna Varner, and Courtney Varner all of Shellsburg; a brother , David
Jr. of Washington, Iowa . A sister Robin(Tony)Lloyd of Washington ; a
niece Jessica Lloyd of Washington; his Grandmother, Jennie Ross of Iowa
City, his in-laws, Michael and Ronna O'Connor of Shellsburg, Iowa and
John Price of Cedar Rapids ; and his best friend Shane Peterson of Cedar
Rapids.
Stan was born on January 9, 1964 in Iowa City the son of David J.
and Barb. J. (Ross) Butterbaugh Sr. On October 20, 2001 he
married Shannon Jean Price. Stan worked for E & F Construction as
a concrete layer. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved son and to
be able to go fishing.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Stan's
memory.
Stan will be Dearly missed by his Loving Wife, Son, Family and
Friends.

Theodore K. Thorson, 62 of Woodside, California, formerly of Cedar
Rapids, died Sunday Oct. 3, 2004, in the Veteran's Affairs Hospital,
Palo Alto, California, following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m.,
Cedar Memorial Park Cemetary, by the Rev.Fran Griffeth. Burial: Cedar
Memorial Park Cemetary , with military rites. Friends may call from

Survivors include three sister, Jeanette Ernst and husband Jack of
Cedar Rapids, Eleanor Scott and husband Buford of Luling , Texas and
Christine Palmisciano and husband Al of Pascoag, R.I.; a brother
William Thorson and wife Myrna of Wenatchee, Washington. Many special
nieces, nephews and good friends; and his beloved dog, (German
Shepherd), Brody.
He is proceded in death by his parents and a stepson, Derek.
Theodore was born on April 20, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to
Theodore C. Thorson and Elsie Brody Thorson. He took great pride in
his career as a fisherman in the Bering Sea, and also as a gardener in
Woodside. He was a San Francisco Giants baseball fan and enjoyed
reading and music. He was recently made a member of the Iowa Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran.

Richard was born November 24, 1942 in Decorah, Iowa to Agnes and
Bennie Drievold.
He attended McKinnely High School. He served in
the Army , stationed in Korea, from 1968 to 1970. He married Betty
Crippen on January 24, 1975, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was a truck
driver for B.L.Anderson for 19 years. He was a member of the First
Lutheran Church and the Hanford American Legion Post 5. He enjoyed
camping, playing Bingo and was an avid race car fan.
Richard will be Greatly missed by his family and friends.

April 15, 2005, in her home.

Lorna was born May 12, 1943 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of
Raymond and Dagmar(Langaas) Daniels. She married Martin E. Holten on
December 15, 1962 in Decorah.
Lorna worked in the office of LeFebure for 32 years, retiring in
1998. She was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Moose
Lodge and the Eagles Club. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting,
embroidering and visiting the casino's , reading, and the time spent
with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be given to Mercy Hospice or to the University
of Iowa for cancer research in Lorna's name.

Rapids, Died of a gunshot wound Friday Morning, January 8, 1999 , in his
home.

Funeral Home in Greenville, Tenn.

Francis Zeman, 65 of Mechanicsville, Iowa , died Wednesday, Oct.
30, 2002 at home of complications from cancer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m., at St. Agnes
Catholic Church in Plymouth Rock, Iowa.
Casketbearers were Dan Dwyer, David Dwyer, Randy Kjarland, Kevin
Zeman, Jerome Timp, Michael Timp and Brian Zeman.
Internment was in the St. Agnes Catholic Church Cemetary in Plymouth
Rock and the Fjelstul Fneral Home of Decorah, Iowa was in charge .
Francis Joseph Zeman, son of Louis A and Kathryn(Jauert)Zeman, was
born May 25, 1937 in Calmar, Iowa.
He graduated from Canton, Minn High School in the class of 1955.
In 1969, he took a job at Ralston Foods in Cedar Rapids, as a
machine operator and was employed there until his death.
Francis Joseph Zeman, was a member of the Imaculate Conception
Catholic Chruch in Cedar Rapids.
He enjoyed fishing, reading , carpentry and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Susan(Malli)Zeman; his five children:
Clinton at home, Brian Zeman of Mechanicsville; Kathy Zeman of
Lewisville, Texas; Scott(Cindy)Zeman of Solon, Iowa and Steve Zeman of
Iowa City; two brothers: Wilford(Judy)Zeman of Glenfloora, Wisconsin,
and David (Delores) Zeman of Manilla, Iowa and one sister Eileen

Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3-6 p.m. today and
at the Chapel after 8 a.m. on Monday.
Survivors include his wife Susan; two daughters, Julia Benters
Sorci and husband Michael of Kalamazoo, Mich, and Diane Boaz and husband
Todd of Star, Texas: two sons, Glen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Keith and
wife Mary Ellen Chomet of Pasadena, Md; a stepson James Farrier of
Marion; a sister Lavonne Prespare and husband Paul of Fresno , Calif.
A brother Larry and his wife Mary of Marion; 13 grandchildren and his
beloved dog Max.
He was proceded in death, by his Parents.
Dennis was born Feb. 15, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to John and Bth
Wilkes Benters.
He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1955. He
served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He worked for John Hancock
Insurance Company and then the Cedar Rapids, Police Department, retiring
in 1992 as Lieutenant. He attended the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va.,
in 1984.
He was a member of the St. James Methodist Church, Mount Hermon
Masonic Lodge, Cedar Rapids, Eagles, Iowa State Policeman's Association
Local No. 5 and the National Academy Associates No. 1450.
