The reverse of the photo says that it was taken in March 1930 at the Alex Nelson farm in Oquawka, Illinois.
Ida was born in Aug 1912; Gladys in 1916.
Note the contrast in their clothing--my grandmother Ida dressed up with the wind blowing her hair, and her sister decked out in her work clothes.
There were 10 kids in the family, but only one son (who was already married & out on his own by the time this was taken), so the girls had to work.
Although only 17, Ida
was already married & had one child at this time.
