Henderson County was established January 20, 1841 from Warren County. It was named after Henderson County, Kentucky, through the influence of emigrants from that Kentucky county. [Illinois county formation maps have been posted on the Cumberland, ILGenWeb site.] Henderson county is located on the western edge of Illinois along the Mississippi river. The county seat is Oquawka.
