At her residence in this county, Sept 1, Mrs. MARY ANN, wife of OTHA W. CRAIG, Esq., aged 53 years, 7 months, and 19 days.
The deceased was an estimable woman and has passed to her heavenly home carrying with her the esteem of all who knew her. For several years she has suffered from a severe physical affliction, but she bore her painful malady a fortitude and Christian resignation not often equalled. To her death had no regrets--it came as a relief for to live was to suffer--to die was relief from bodily pain and a realization of her Christian hopes.
Of flux, near Olena, August 21st, JOHN ANDREW CLARENSE, son of JOHN and NANCY CAROTHERS, aged 2 years, 6 months, and 6 days.
Of the same disease, Aug 30, MARY ARABELLA, daughter of the same parents, aged nine years, 6 months, and 10 days.
"Righteous art thou, O Lord, and upright are thy judgments." Yet thy ways are often mysterious for us. We cannot see as thou seest. Yet still assured that thou doest all things well, we would humbly bow under thy chastening rod and say "It is for the Lord, let him do what seemeth him good."
The bright hopes of this family have been blasted at a time when they were little expecting it. The trial is a severe one, yet they mourn not as those who have no hope. Little Mary, when told that it was doubtful about her recovering, said: "She loved her Savior, and she wanted to go and be with Him." Then she passed a little before her weeping friends and has received her crown. Weeping friends, let such thoughts as these comfort your hearts and wait for your Savior and soon you will meet with those who have gone before you.
Of flux, near Olena, Aus. 22d, ROBERT AUSTIN, son of ROBERT and MARGARET RAMSEY, aged 1 year, 3 months, and 5 days.
Of the same disease, in Olena, Aug 30th, MARY, daughter of GEORGE H. and JANE CURRY, aged one year, 3 (or 5?) months and 17 days.
Of the same disease, near Olena, Sept 9, ELIZA CORNELIA, daughter of ROBERT GADDIS, aged 7 yrs.
Death has been busy among us. We are taught by these dispensations of God's providence, that we hare like the grass of the field, "In the morning it flourishes and in the evening it is cut down."
To our Sabbath School children I would say, "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth." To the teachers, I would say "Hold up Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life." Parent bereaved: "Watch and pray for ye know neither the day nor the hoiur that your Lord cometh." If found watching you will meet those loved ones who have passed but a little before you, with their glorified bodies, bodies "clothed like unto our Lord's own glorious body."
