22  WOLLARD/WOOLARD/WOOLLARD  Charles A. WOLLARD b 1816 NC married Eleanor (Ellen) CONNER on Dec 24, 1836 Washington, Rhea Co,TN. Can be found in 1840 Census Rhea Co, TN then they went south to Hamilton Co, TN by the 1850 Census.

1850 census shows Charles 35, Ellen 31, John 12, James 8, Martha 5, Rufus 3, Charles C. 8/12. I am currently unable to locate them in any 1860 Census. The family (at least some of it) was supposed to be in Jackson Co, IL according to family charts.

Charles A. WOLLARD was said in family records to have died on June 1, 1866 in Makanda, Jackson Co, IL. I have been unable to locate a burial site/grave marker.

What happen to Ellen and the children? Their eldest son John Richard Wollard b 1838 was said to have had a son, William J., born in Makanda, Jackson Co, IL in 1859. It looks like some of them may have gone to Arkansas. Can someone help me located this family in Jackson Co, IL Please!!

According to the family records this is the list of children born to Charles and Ellen WOLLARD:

John Richard Wollard b 1838 TN

Lear Jane Wollard bc1839-40 TN must have died before 1850

William Thomas Wollard bc1841 must have died before 1850

Charles Columbus Wollard b1849-50 TN died 1922 Makanda, Jackson Co, IL

Hosea Lenear Wollard b Sept 18, 1861; d Dec 16, 1910 Williamson Co, IL (our line)

Francis Marion Wollard b March 14, 1864 Arkansas; d 1936 Williamson Co, IL

It is possible that Charles and Ellen lived in Arkansas for a while and may have gone back and forth. My husband's Hosea L WOLLARD married Frona/Phrona A. TURNER possibly in Clay Co, Arkansas. They later settled and lived their lives in Williamson Co, IL. In Frona Turner Wollard's obituary is stated she married Hosea L. Wollard of Jackson County.

40 LAFFOON I am tracing Harretta (or Harriet A.) Laffoon, b. NC, around 1834. She is my son's gggrandmother. Found (as Harretta Laffoon) in 1880 census in Grand Tower, Jackson County, Illinois, along with a daughter (Josie Laffoon b. 1863 MO) and a daughter (Donnie Eubanks b. 1873 IL). Also listed is a granddaughter (Annie Laffoon, age 1, IL). Note: Annie has the surname Laffoon but we find no males with that name in the household or in the county. Harretta's daughters Rebecca b. 1854 MO and Caledonia b. 1867 MO were listed in the neighborhood working as servants.

One of her daughter's obits says the Laffoon daughters were born in Missouri, a family of six children. No info on any sons or other daughters. Later census records also indicate Harretta's Laffoon daughters were born in Missouri. Census indicates Harretta and her Laffoon daughters' father were born in NC. I have searched and searched but have not found this family on any document in Missouri from 1850 to 1870. No idea who Harretta's Laffoon husband was. A Stephen Laffoon married a Harretta Horten (same birth year as our Harretta) in NC in 1854. Our Harretta Laffoon's daughter Rebecca was born in MO in 1854. Harriet A. Laffoon married a man named Geo. Eubanks in Pope County, IL, in 1870. One of Haretta's daughters, Donnie Eubanks, was born in 1873 in Johnson Co, IL. On the 1880 census Harretta is using the name Laffoon again with her daughter Donnie Eubanks in her household. A puzzle!

Caledonia Laffoon (my son's great grandmother)and Donnie Eubanks (her half sister) married Minton brothers so we know from family history that they shared the same mother. What we don't know is: who was the father of Haretta's Laffoon daughters? Is Harretta Laffoon Harretta Horten? If the daughters were born in Missouri in the 1850's and 1860's, where were they in Missouri? If the daughters came from a family of six, what happened to the other children? Who is Annie's (the granddaughter) father or mother? Also no info on Haretta's death or where she is buried. The Social Security Death Index shows Laffoons from Makanda but we do not know the relationship. I am stumped!  Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Jane Minton  Jjanemin@aol.com  3/6/99

42   KNOP  I am searching for information regarding some individuals who are buried in St. Luke's Lutheran Cemetery in Campbell Hill, Jackson Co. Ill. There are 17 people with the surname of Knop buried in this cemetery. I would like information on two of these individuals by the names of:  Fredrich C. I feel that Herman is in some way related to at least some of these 17 Knop's who are buried in St. Luke's Cemetery and am wondering if possibly either Fredrich C. or Henry F. might be related to him as brothers due to their similarities in birth dates. Any information as to the lineages of these two Knop's or to any other of the Knop's buried in St. Luke's Cemetery would be most appreciated.  Jon A. Tooley  email address=mwok50@aol.com  3/8/99

46  CRANE/ FLACK/WINTERS/WOOTAN  Thomas Crane, John Flack, John D. Winters and D. Wootan appear in the 1820 census of Jackson County. By 1832 they were residing in Jo Daviess County where they (or their families) took refuge in the Apple River Fort when they were attacked in the Blackhawk War. John Flack appears to operate a tavern. John D. Winters had a stagecoach business that operated all over northern Illinois. He and his family moved to Carson City, Nevada area. My town of Elizabeth, Illinois, is named for his wife. Thomas Crane and Daniel Wootan were connected to Winters in some way. Crane ended up in Stephenson County. His daughter remembered the Indian attack in an article published in a Freeport paper. I am researching the Apple River Fort families that has been reconstructed outside of ELizabeth, Illinois. I need help on the origins of these families and any activities in Jackson County.         Marjorie Smith  margesmith@internetni.com  3/15/99

48  BOST/CREWS/DOERR  My grt-grt-grandmother, Ruth Bost Doerr was daughter of William Allen Bost and Amanda Crews, who was the daughter of Banister and Frankie Crews. Am looking for more info on these families. I know that they are all buried in Central Cemetery, northwest of Desoto, IL, which was supposed to have originally been the old Crews homeplace. The Bosts came from Germany in early 1700's and settled in Pennsylvania, and then North Carolina; I am interested in how they got to Illinois from there. I do not know any more about the Crews family. Can you help? Angela Pavloff  agpav@midwest.net  3/20/99

51  BROWN  I am researching Richard Brown, born in TN 1801, and his wife Rebecca (maiden name unknown), also born in TN 1801. Their children were: William L., Richard, Jr., James, John David, Edward, Benjamin, George, Henry and Caroline.  Richard moved to Jackson Co. while young.  He is listed in the 1820 through 1850 census with his wife and children.  He died in 1853, in Jackson Cnty.

I would like to find Richard's father (I think it might be the Richard Brown, Sr. of the 1818 Census), but I have been told that the "Seniors" aren't necessarily the fathers of the "Juniors" !!   Thank you for your help.   Regards, Neva (Brown) Mohle  Nmohle@aol.com  3/27/99
