Abingdon Cemetery & Mausoleum

Cedar Township, Range 1, E NE 1/4 Section 32, located in North West Section of Abingdon.  Abraham Swartz who had resided on Sec. 17, near Louisville in 1829, took up residence in 1833 on Section 32.  Swartz plotted out one-hundred and twenty lots for burial grounds for family and friends.  This is known as the old part (South West Section) which he later deeded to the City of Abingdon.  The first persons to purchase lots in the old part were:  Graham, Zieger, Basse, Bears, Gillespie, Reece and Rev. Camp.  Many new additions have been made in past years.  Mr. Swartz surveyed the land and plotted out the City of Abingdon, where he later resided.                                                                   Ruth E.
