Did You Know?? Abraham Lincoln & Stephen A. Douglas, at Galesburg, Illinois, October 7, 1858 Barnabas Root, a black man in Illinois to get a degree from Knox College Class of 1870. Hiram Rhoades Revels was the first black man to be elected a U.S. Senator Knox County is one of 102 counties in Illinois. George Ferris, the man who invented the "Ferris Wheel" for the Columbian Exposition in 1893.
