Etherly Cemetery was established when there was a Coal mine south of Victoria. The main people buried in the Etherly Cemetery are of a George Smith family who founded the town of Etherly and mined the mines. I did research for a lady in Texas on the Smith family buried here about five years ago. On October 23, 2003, Kate, my daughter, a lady whom I thought was a friend and her daughter we walked this cemetery together after I showed her where it was. The Etherly Cemetery in later years was sometimes referred to as the Smith Cemetery for the Smith family that is buried here. It is located on Section 30 of Victoria Township. To get to the Cemetery off of Illinois State Hwy #116 in the middle of the village of Victoria there is a crossroads County Road 15 going south towards the Victoria Methodist Church. Follow Knox County Road #15 out into the country. |
