Welcome, Friend, You are the5965th       Visitor to this Site.

Have a Great day.... & Happy Gene Hunting...

may you find whom/what you are looking for......

Kathy Mills, who has now settled in North Carolina;  typed this up and emailed it to me via the net.   Thanks so Much Kathy!!! I really

appreciate all the time and trouble you've taken to help me out on my new venture on my Knox County, Illinois Web Site.

Foxie's Note: Fellow researchers, I love taking photos and have since a child.  With this cemetery here I took these at the end of the day on Monday, May 29, 2006, which was Memoiral Day for this year. I was hot, tired, but did my best.  I'm finding there are mistakes in this cemetery listings as per the tombstone photos I have.  Also, I want you to get some of the full impact of the photos and how you can almost actually be there.  So, am leaving a few of them their original size.  Which means it will take a bit more to download if you have a slow dial up connection like I do.  But be patient, and I think you like what you see.  If not email me your complaints, as I can always change it.  I have tombstones photos of every tombstone here except under a bush.  I couldn't get to them without cutting it down and I had no way of doing it.  I will be making another web page with more tombstone photos on it and linked from this and from Phyllis Long's pages.  Phyllis thanks you, her ancestor's thank you & I for one thank you.... Have a gorgeous day.

Will be posting a twp map with directions to cemeteries later... Thanks.

This cemetery has been abandoned and is in very bad repair.  The stones are all very old.    If you know of anyone who is buried here or information that is not correct feel free to    click on doggie to email me direct. Thanks

This cemetery has been restored and is being kept in better shape than it used to be.  It is well mowed in the summer time.  It is right off high IL 97 between Knoxville and Maquon and the country road 900th. you turn on it and go north a little ways and cemetery is on the right hand side of the road you can't miss it.   I have all the tombstone sin this cemetery on file here at the house if you would like one email me.  Thanks!!!

Another note from Foxie: This cemetery is slowly being I don't know what.  But when you get a gander at some of the other tombstones here you will see what I mean.  I thought once restored always restored.  But many of the older tombstones are in far worse shape now than they ever were and are still getting broken off. Maybe the ones who restored it should take another look at this cemetery.  There is much history here soon to be lost..........

Have a Great Day!!!  & Happy Gene Hunting to you & yours may you find whom or whomever you are searching for....

May you ear echoes from the past......

Humasten Cemetery, Cedar Twp ., Knox County, IL

HUMASTEN CEMETERY

Humasten Cemetery is located in Section 17, in Cedar Township, 10 N, Range 1 E., Knox County, Illinois.

Elisha Humasten and his wife, Elizabeth, settled on Section 17, in Cedar Township, in 1834.  They deeded this land to be used for ever as a cemetery, the 3rd of December 1846.  It is told the first burial was a young girl, whose family was moving West.  The last burial was in the 1950s.

Near by was a trading post called Louisville.  It was laid out by John S. Garrett, September 3, 1836.  The settlers erected a Methodist Church in 1841.

The cemetery is located South of Galesburg, Illinois on State Route 41, to the first road South of Bracken Corners, West one fourth mile to a field on the farm of Harry F. Josephson.

This is just up and around a short corner. If you look closely you can barely see tombstones in the background.

Foxie's Note August 14, 2006---while revamping a Biography page for the Portrait and Biographical Album it states in Mrs. Matilda Dunlap' married Edmund P. Dunlap on 22 December 1836. He was born in Fleming County, Kentucky on 24 March 1811, and brought up on his father's farm. His decease took place 29 March 1865, while residing in Knox County. He was a victim of typhoid fever, his illness lasting six months before he finally succumbed. He lies buried in the Humiston cemetery. But he is not on any listings nor is their a tombstone in this cemetery for him.

This young man's tombstone is missing from the cemetery.  He doesn't have the family tombstone or his Military Stone. Have been to this cemetery quite a bit this summer in retaking photos for ancestors and we looked everywhere for it the last time Kate & I was there.  Making this note here.  We also put out flags for the other veterans at this cemetery and hopefully they will not get mowed down like Cyrus's did after I put it out on May 29, 2006, for a family member.
