Welcome, Friend, You are the4526th        Visitor to this Site.

Have a Great day....

& Happy Gene Hunting... may you find whom/what you are looking for.....

There is also a Confederate Soldier buried here in the Knoxville Cemetery.  His name was Andrew Gold.  There are several Photos of his tombstone and the confederate marker of this veteran of the Civil War.

Update: May 24th, 2005-----Have made some changes to the Elwell's tombstone photos and some more will probably be on the way as the plot information and the tombstone information is not corresponding with each other.  Also, noting Cemetery records for the Knoxville Cemetery were lost when they were switching from the county seat in Knoxville to Galesburg, IL.  Nobody seems to know what happened to them. So, in order to get records on the cemetery they went by who it was recorded, where that came from I don't know, and then people went out and read the tombstones in the cemetery.  They may be people buried in the plots with no tombstones and I have found this to be true in even my family.  If there wasn't a tombstone then they weren't recorded as being buried here and if a name on the tombstone was giving remembrance to a child that child may have been buried elsewhere.  I  have also found this to be true.  So, maybe with the help of you fellow people out there if you are looking for someone buried in this cemetery and don't find them let me know.

Also, Kathy Mills has recently sent me 5 sections of this cemetery typed and tabled all I need to do is process it for a web page and upload it and will have more of the people buried in the Knoxville Cemetery online for you. Just as soon as I get more free time...  Thanks for your patience.

Below is a Cemetery link bar for your convenience.  Just click on the name of the cemetery you would like to go to. These are the ones I have online at the moment.  The ones with photo galleries will take a bit to download over a slow internet connection....

    Hello fellow citizens of Genealogy Land;

I've been busy taking photos of cemeteries for some years in both Knox and Warren County, IL.  I now have a chance to share them with you.  And these are only intended for fellow genealogist who are looking for their ancestors and wanting photos of their tomb tomes.     THESE ARE NOT FOR PEOPLE TO COPY TO THEIR COMPUTER AND THEN USE FOR THEIR BENEFIT FOR THEIR WEB PAGES.  IF I SEE THIS DONE ANYWHERE THERE WILL BE TROUBLE.  THIS IS ALLOT OF WORK I'VE WENT TO PUT HERE FOR PEOPLE IN NEED AND CAN'T GET TO THE AREA  TO HELP ME GET CAUGHT UP ON DOING LOOK UPS FOR PEOPLE AND I DON'T INTEND TO LET SOMEBODY COPY MY WORK AND THEN CALL IT THEIR OWN.  I WILL NOT STAND FOR THAT.  I'VE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME BEFORE BY SOMEONE I CALLED A FRIEND.  WELL, WITH FRIENDS LIKE THAT YOU NEED NO ENEMIES. SO THIS IS A WARNING AND THE ONLY WARNING YOU WILL GET. This goes for any photos or old pictures on this web site.

Anyone who wants to or needs a copy of these can email me and I can give you directions on how to get one.  These are not right protected and I don't really want to have to do that to any of them on this web site.  I have on some pages but it's not enough.  I have a html protector which I can use but I don't really want to.  I want these to be available to people out there who really want them and be able to get them without a lot of hassle.  So, fellow webmasters, let's keep our own to our own... Thanks.

You may click on a thumbnail.  Another page will pop~up with the photo on it.  You may then right click on the photo and save it to your computer.. But just know it's for your own personal use only and not to be put on another web site unless you have my permission to do so.  Thanks for your time and patience in this.

There are 258 thumbnails of tombstones photos on this web page.  I don't have the captions there with the surnames or such as yet but will; right now just trying to get them online for others to be able to view and use.  The actual photos are named for the surnames of the people's names on the tombstones with most first names and sometimes the wife's first name.  These photos are searchable using my pico search engine.  I've made that possible so you may use the search engine to find the one you want faster.  I hope it works with the photo gallery.  I just found out it works meaning the photo gallery and saves me bunches of time to get these online to you.  I have a copy of all the known burials in the Knoxville Cemetery here at my home and can look up any for you if they are not on here yet.  Just click on my little doggie above to email me and we are in business.   Have a great day and Happy happy Gene Hunting to you and yours.....

Kate dugg this up and we took more photos of it with a regular camera and they came out a little better. The stone is very old and the death date is lost on it. the bottom of the tombstone was sunken way down in the ground and broken into many pieces....

Elwell

Buried in the ground and hard to read. two photos of this tombstone. going back to dig up and try and get a better photo...

Just before we are putting the tombstone back. We left it in and upright position so as to try and help it not to detoriate to much more.. When we started it was flat on the ground and half covered with grass and dirt as in the first photo of his tombstone.

Elwell, Sarah J. wife of John H. Elwell.

Will Repost here later. there is question as to what plot this is. I, Foxie, need to find out if info is correct below or if in another plot altogether.

in the Cemetery records this says she is an Elwell. She is buried in an Elwell plot. but she is named as the Daughter of first name____ Wallich died April ___ 1863 0r 1869???

she is in a plot who was owned by I. C. Elwell. bought or into a trust Sept. 09, 1865. This from records from the Knoxville Clerk in Knoxville IL.

Also a Helen Wallich Canfield 1893-1962.... Nov. 19

Edson William Canfield 1892-1956.....Oct. 24.

in the third space there used to be an unreadable stone not there anymore....

in lot #6 of this plot is a Joel, son of E. f. & H. Byram no dates

Elwell

Sarah J.

wife of J. H. Elwell

I have also found on the back of the tombstone names of two children.

Rebecca E. dau of J & S. L Elwell and and infant. son. no dates on the son. Looks like Rebecca died Dec. 14, 1859.
