Methodist Church Cemetery Hermon, IL
My daughter, Kate, and I are in the process of walking this cemetery and the Christian Cemetery across the street. I'm photographing it and Kate is making sure the listings are correct and getting the newer burials after the tombstones were read by Kathryn Reece of Abingdon, and loaned to the Knox County Genealogical Society for Publication. Will post an update here when finished. Kate also typed this up and 2 pages where missing from her saved disks. So, she will have to repeat it. Am in the process of putting online all the tombstones in this cemetery that we found. The Methodist Church Cemetery is located in Hermon, IL, Chestnut Township, Knox co., Il right on county road 8. There are several ways to get to the Hermon depending on where are you. From Knoxville, Il, take county road #8 going south out of Knoxville, Keep going on this road until you come to a T in the Road which is county road #20 turn as to go to Abingdon. Also, will be a sign saying Hermon. Keep going West on this road until you get to another sign which is about a couple of miles down the road. There will be a sign saying Hermon. This is Knox county Rd #8 again. Turn left. (If you should keep going straight on Knox Co. Rd. #20 it will take you in to Abingdon. The Hermon Methodist Cemetery as it is now called is the Cemetery on the right hand side of the road or the West side of the road. The Christian Church Cemetery is located right across the street. These are two very old cemeteries in Knox County. Knox County Road #8 going through Hermon, Il, south and keep going will take you to IL State Rt. #116. At one time both cemeteries were let go and got into pretty bad shape. That is not the case anymore. They are well maintained. This is a partial listings as some tombstones have been lost. It is a still used as a burying ground for Hermon residents and well maintained. Kate and I have tried our best to give you the correct information as found in this cemetery. Hope to get this done by the end of this week. Because I need to move on to the Christian Cemetery, Williamsfield which Kate & I have already taken a great portion of it. And now have request for the Uniontown Cemetery.
