Timber ~ Deatherage Cemetery

sometimes called the McMurtry Cemetery  

Located in the Northwest corner of the Northeast 1/3, Section 33, Rio Township.  It is 1/2 mile West of the Junction of U.S. Rte 150 and the Ontario Road, on the South side of the road.  Bartholomew Chadwick leased this 1/2 acre burial ground to the State of Illinois on October 5, 1843.  It was witnessed by William McMurtry, Justice of the Peace at that time.  Recorded in No 7, p 407 Deed Records of Knox Co.  The cemetery was fenced by Mrs. Daisy Deatherage Adcock.  This cemetery is being destroyed & is in very poor condition. All persons listed on the Memorial Stone below in the photo were buried in this cemetery.  A person used many of the tombstones for side walk around his house and literally tried to destroy most of the others.  I 35 mm photos of all the other tombstones and will put them here later.  Wanted to get this online.  If you click on the photo you can see the cemetery in the back or what is left of it.
