The conference will be held at the Pere Marquette Hotel in downtown Peoria, IL on October 23, 2010.  Rooms have been blocked for the event, but you will need to book early.  Rooms include breakfast and free parking at the hotel.  Be sure to ask for the discounted price when reserving your room.  Reservations must be made by telephone using the number in the upper right hand corner.  The hotel website does not provide the coding possibility to reserve online.  For information about the hotel, click on the marquis above to access the website for the Pere Marquette.

For those who are driving to and from on Friday or Saturday, Peoria is easily accessed by Interstate 74 and there is ample parking in downtown Peoria.  Check out the maps and directions at the Peoria Convention and Visitors Bureau by clicking here. Scroll down to find the map of the city and parking decks available.  Three parking decks are within three city blocks of the hotel.

The featured speaker at this year’s event will be Curt Witcher, the manager of the Genealogy Department at Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, IN. For more information on all the speakers and the conference events click on the little fellow to the left to access speaker bio’s and the conference brochure.

Because this year the conference will have a special workshop for our younger family historians, ages 12—15, you might want to truly make this a family affair. Check the entry forms for the workshop and the essay contest.

If you would be interested in learning a little of Peoria’s history while you are in our city, the Peoria Historical Society has graciously offered to open the Flanagan House Museum for special viewing should anyone like to visit.  The Flanagan House gives a peek into the lifestyles of Peoria’s past inhabitants.  But in order to make it happen, we need an idea if anyone would be interested.  Let us know if you would like to visit the Flanagan House by emailing your thoughts to pcgspresident@gmail.com.  You would need to tell us your preference of Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.  This could be a great item for those spouses or children who are coming but not attending events on Saturday.

There are lots of things going on in Peoria in the month October, so be sure to check the Peoria Convention and Visitors brochure and find out what’s playing during your visit.
