The inscriptions contained within were identified by careful recording and checking of the tombstones of the burial grounds listed.

Transcribed by Kitty Smith and edited by Foxie Hagerty, your host, before  publishing I have been to this cemetery and taken pictures.  Will post them at a later date.  If you have any information about anyone buried in this cemetery listed or not feel free email me.

Gerlaw Cemetery is about a half mile east of Gerlaw, Illinois, on the north side of the east half of the southeast quarter of Section 34 in Spring Grove Township.  It was deeded to the Gerlaw Cemetery Association by James H. Hartzell, August 18, 1911, but was used for several years before that time.  The cemetery is approximately 2 acres in size and is very well maintained.  In May 1981, the Gerlaw Cemetery inscriptions were identified as:

Last summer my daughter, Kate, & I were out to the Terpening Cemetery, my family, and went to the Gerlaw Cemetery where we found they were putting up this white fence all around it with a Gerlaw Cemetery sign on it now. Can't remember if it had one already or not.  I have two sets of tombstone photos for this cemetery some taken a few years back and then some taken recently like last summer or fall when were there will post some more later. One below are trying to show the fence around the cemetery. It really looks great.
