Hickory Point Cemetery

Hickory Point Cemetery is located in the southwest corner of Section 13 in Tompkins Twp. This burial ground was associated with and adjacent to the Hickory Point Church. The Reformed Presbyterian Church was organized in 1848 in Monmouth, Il.  In 1855 the congregation built the Country Church and became known as Hickory Point Church. Land for the cemetery was purchased in 1858 with money deeded from John Paul to the trustees of the church. Tombstone inscriptions indicate that the land was used for burials before it was purchased. In 1866 the congregation dissolved the members going into other churches in neighboring communities. No provisions were left for the upkeep of the cemetery and since that time it has been intermittently neglected and maintained by various concerned individuals. In November 1981, the inscriptions of the tombstones were identified as: I compared the listings with the tombstones in the said cemetery.  I have walked this cemetery and also have photos of the tombstones.

*******Foxie's note----This was typed, designed, and emailed to from Gloria Jackson of AZ.   Thanks so much Gloria. You do a fantastic job and I have little editing to do.... Keep up the good work..... You don't know how much I appreciate your help....

On another note, when I get my printer to scan will be adding pictures here so you can see the shape this cemetery is in.  Somebody ought to be ashamed of themselves for the way this one is kept up. It looks like the graphic up above.... There also used to be the Hickory Point Church here too.

Thanks for stopping by
