Home Cemetery

Gilmer Township,  Adams County,  Illinois

The Home Cemetery is located at the intersection of roads E 1300th, N 1750th, and E 1316th streets, which is just to the northwest of Fowler, IL (Gilmer township, Adams county).    According to the Great River Genealogical Society Cemetery books, this cemetery is also known as the Stahl Cemetery, probably because there are many people with the surname Stahl buried here.   If you take Rt 96  north out of Quincy, towards Fowler,  you will turn left (north) onto E 1300th street .    The cemetery is just east of the intersection of the 3 roads mentioned above, surrounded at this point in time by fields.   You can't miss it.   This is a pretty little cemetery, well maintained.    Some of the headstones have weathered badly, making them impossible to read.    Others have fallen over and may become covered with dirt in the next decades, making them impossible to find (see the photo of one of the UNKNOWNS that I have taken).   I believe that I've taken a photo of every headstone in the cemetery.   If I missed any, I sincerely apologize.   I'd like to thank the Great River Genealogical Society for "filling in the gaps".    I used their cemetery book "Cemeteries of Adams County, VOL IV" as a reference tool when I was unable to read a stone.   I'm pleased with the way that most of the photos turned out and I hope that you'll like them too.   The GRGS book had a couple of listings that I could not find:   .   Enjoy!!!

I truly enjoy taking these photos and sharing them with you.    I also enjoy trying to decipher what is printed on each stone.    If a stone has an inscription and only part of it is readable, I take what I can read and research it on the internet.    Hopefully I haven't strayed too far from what is actually inscribed.    My original photos are much larger than the versions you see here, making it easier for me to read the inscriptions than the photos you're seeing.
