Mt. Pleasant Cemetery

Gilmer Township, Adams County, Illinois

 

This cemetery is located just outside the fence surrounding the Quincy Municipal Airport, at the northwest corner of the fence/airport.    Coming out of Quincy on route 104 East, turn north onto E. 1600th street.    Continue north approximately 1.5 miles.   The cemetery will be at the intersection of E. 1600th St and N. 1400th Ave.    This cemetery is well maintained and is still being used as there were a few recent burials.    As with any of these old cemeteries, there were headstones that were lying on the ground, the risk being that they will become lost to future generations when they become covered with dirt (as I'm sure some have already).    I used the Cemetery book "Cemeteries of Adams County, Volume IV", by the Great River Genealogical Society as a reference.   The information for this book was gathered in 1989.    There were a few interments listed for this cemetery which I was unable to find, my assumption being that these have already been covered over.    I hate to see this happen.  

As always, I'd like to thank the GRGS for their cemetery records.   I was able to use their information to fill in the gaps when I couldn't quite make out all the information on a headstone.
