Gordley Cemetery, is located in the northeast quarter of section 26, Mt. Sterling Township. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The John Gordley and family came from Lexington County,
Kentucky, in 1837, and settled in the Harper neighborhood on Section 26. HE was
caught under a falling tree in 1839 and was buried in a private cemetery in the
locality, owned for many many years by the Harper family. He left four sons,
Edward A., John Thomas, William Lewis, and James S. When the recording was made,
the burial ground had been flooded by a man made pond and the hogs were running
in the tall grass among the stones at it's edge.
