Not going to continue to make all
townships with all cemeteries in their prospective townships as it
takes too long to make. So, will just be putting the
cemeteries with their townships and then add when others want to
contribute to this site or somebody wants to adopt it and put more
online. Thanks.
Thanks for your help.

Always a works in progress
created June 19, 2007 |
About 1810, Andrew Moore settled near the southeast
corner of the county, near where Goshen Road emerges from the forest
of Hamilton County into what is now known as Moore's Prairie.
In 1814, Andrew Moore departed with his eight year old son for
Jordan's settlement, journey from which he never returned. Later a
skull was found by his cabin several years later about two miles
from his cabin believed to be him. Jordan's settlement also called
Jordan's Fort, was southeast of Modern Thompsonville, Illinois,
approximately twenty miles from Moore's cabin.
In 1816, Carter Wilkey, Daniel Crenshaw and Robert Cook settled on
Moore's Prairie. Daniel Crenshaw moved into Moore's cabin. This
settlement is believed to be the first permanent settlement in the
County.
Jefferson County was organized in 1819, out of parts of White,
Edwards and Franklin Counties. It was named in honor of Thomas
Jefferson, principle draftsman of the Northwest Ordinance, among
other things. The baseline along the northern border of the County
crosses the Third Principal Meridian at the northwest corner of the
County. |

neglected cemeteries. If we don't do something about them now they will
soon be gone & lost to us forever.

Thanks

Appellate Court House
 |
St.
Mary's Catholic Church, there is a very interesting story in a brochure
we got from the hotel on this church; plus, the Appellate Courthouse
above. This church sits right across from the Appellate Courthouse and
another unique building I forgot to photograph which is the Funeral Home
on the other corner. Big house much history. |

Have just recently returned from a trip from Jefferson co., IL where I
searched for stones that were supposed to have been moved or not in cemetery
they were there when they had returned it anyone guess. But I had also had
the opportunity to visit these cemeteries while I was there. Marty Miller, a
Dowser, showed me around with great pride in home town. He does dowsing for
graves to look for unmarked graves if you would like to contact him join our
mailing list he is a member and very well informed on many of the cemeteries
in the area. Listed below is list of Cemeteries we visited & I took photos
of.
