There is much history here with Revolutionary War Soldier's being buried here, the Casey Family, who bought the house and is still today in existence, if you have family, friends buried here be sure to send them a donation. There 110 photos in the gallery usually I get a full view then a close up but I was a little excited over this cemetery with all the history Revolutionary War soldier's, Two State Representatives, One Senator, plus Zadok Casey was Lt. Governor of our fair state of IL. Loads of history here be sure if you have family here to send them a donation for upkeep or if in the area visit the cemetery it is worth it. you can feel the history as you walk among them.

Plot with old iron fencing around it. forgot to get close ups I was just so excited to be in such an old cemetery. we have them here but not this old or doesn't seem like nobody in ours has died in 1820. whew.....

born Green Co., Georgia March 07, 1796. when 21, he, his wife and a baby started their trip to Illinois GTerritory Arriving in Illinois in 1817, Zadok was one of the early settlers in what was to become Mt. Vernon, May 1819. Zadok Casey's accomplishments were:

Minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church

1822-1826 a member of the Illinois House of Representatives in Vandalia

1826-1830 Illinois State Senator

1830-1832 Lieutenant Governor State of Illinois

1833-1842 member of the United States Congress

1847 elected to the Illinois Constituional Convention and was infuluential in locatin gthe Supreme Court in Mt. Vernon.

1848 to his deaht in 1862 he continued in the State Legistature in several contributions that he made helped mold Mt. Vernon into being one of the most progressive communites in Southern Illinois.
